So the only one in Indonesia, UPNVJ Holds Emergency Medical Training Helicopters Emergency Medical Services

Public Relations UPNVJ - Jakarta "Veteran" National Development University (UPNVJ) is again hosting the Helicopters Emergency Medical Services or HEMS air medical transportation training this year. This only training program in Indonesia was previously held by UPN Veteran Jakarta in 2019.

The HEMS training this time was carried out more massively with 168 selected participants from all stakeholders in Indonesia, equipped with the latest airborne medical emergency equipment and technology, as well as world-class instructors directly appointed by FAM (Fondation De L'academie De Medicine) and France's Airbus Foundation.

The nature of this training is strategic, reflecting the strong cooperation between Indonesia and France, especially in developing human resources in the health sector. French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone will be present in person to open the HEMS training event.

The HEMS training program will last for three days on 5-7 September 2023. On the first two days, the training will be held at the Merce Auditorium on the UPNVJ Limo Campus. Meanwhile, training on the last day is scheduled to take place at Polairud Airport, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang.

The ranks of participants in this training include representatives from the Airbus Foundation and Airbus Indonesia; FAM; Head of Sub-Directorate for Aerospace Potential, Directorate of Air Police, Korpolairud Baharkam Polri; Head of Health Crisis Center; Head of the Jakarta Emergency Ambulance Service Implementation Unit (AGD Jakarta); Flight Operation Inspector Helicopter from the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation; and many more.

The mission and objective of implementing HEMS 2023 is to increase knowledge and skills and build awareness regarding the importance of helicopter-based medical emergency training. HEMS training is considered useful for reducing the ratio of patient deaths during emergencies, especially when traveling to the clinic or hospital.

This medical emergency training mission is not only built on conventional emergencies such as fires in tall buildings, accidents on toll roads, and so on, but is also based on the awareness that Indonesia is a disaster-prone country.

Indonesia is located at the meeting point of three large plates, the Eurasian, Indo-Australian and Pacific Plates. The movement of these plates makes Indonesia very vulnerable to natural disasters, especially geological emergencies such as tectonic earthquakes, tsunami waves and volcanic eruptions.

The 2022 World Risk Report issued by Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft and IFHV of the Ruhr-University Bochum clearly shows that Indonesia is the third most disaster-prone country in the world. This condition requires mastery of helicopter-based medical emergency knowledge and skills.

Through this year's HEMS training, it is hoped that all the results obtained can be applied and be useful for developing the capacity of human resources in the health sector at various referral hospitals in Indonesia, including health teachers at universities which will ultimately be able to improve the quality of medical services in Indonesia.
