Public RelationsUPNVJ - Bibliometric learning is part of the roots of information in library and archiving data. This was expressed by Fransiska Timoria Samosir, S.Sos, MA, permanent lecturer and Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program at Bengkulu University when giving a presentation on Bibliometrics at the National Seminar on Information Science at the Diplomacy Laboratory, FISIP A Building, Veteran National Development University, Jakarta ( UPNVJ) on Friday, November 10, 2023.
The national seminar event was attended by students from the UPNVJ Information Science study program from the Class of 2022 and 2023 and attended by 10 students from the Library Science and Information Science Study Program at Bengkulu University.
The seminar takes the main topic of Bibliometrics which is part of the informometrics course. So far, the field of Bibliometrics still feels foreign to students and the general public.
Bibliometrics is needed in a multidisciplinary field, one of which is data science. Because it is still relatively unfamiliar, it is necessary to build a new mindset about digital library science in the form of bibliometrics applied in digital applications and utilizing software facilities to analyze it.
Fransiska, or familiarly called Siska, explained that bibliometrics is currently not only used in the field of library science, but in several other areas to analyze data and archives. One example is in the field of medicine, where bibliometria is used to research trends in health and disease data studies taken from various digital data and archives.
"The field of Bibliometrics is indeed very broad, but its main scientific roots are in the fields of library science and information science. So, it is hoped that the UPNVJ Information Science field can become one of the multidisciplinary scientific development studies that also utilizes bibliometrics," said Siska.
Bibliometrics, according to Siska, is used to identify research trends in all fields and can be taken from internet repository data. Several research loci that can be utilized include the campus environment.
"For example, students can research research trends in student theses at UPN, they can take it from students in one of the study programs and then identify research themes that are frequently carried out. They can also measure the quality and productivity of researchers. This can all be done using bibliometric methods," added Siska.
Through this seminar, it is hoped that it can provide new insights and knowledge for Information Science students. This was conveyed by Radita Gora, Head of the UPNVJ Information Science Study Program who also acted as moderator of the event when giving a closing statement.
He said that Bibliometrics learning served as an additional insight in terms of a new perspective regarding Bibliometrics in depth. Apart from that, this national seminar event can also be a means of friendship between UPNVJ students and Bengkulu students.
"Students can study together and stay in touch through national seminars. Apart from that, this event is also a form of implementation of collaboration between the UPNVJ Information Science Study Program and Bengkulu University Library and Information Science. Lecturer exchanges are also a means of sharing knowledge from various perspectives of lecturers in various subjects," said Radita.
Apart from the national seminar, the event, which was a form of collaboration between UPNVJ and Bengkulu University, ended with the signing of the Implementation Agreement (IA) and the presentation of plaques to Bengkulu University lecturers as souvenirs.
