Various Information Science Perspectives in the UPNVJ National Seminar and Widyatama University

Public RelationsUPNVJ - The rapid flow of information in the current era of digital technology makes the role of individuals very important in understanding the truth of any information circulating. Knowing data is a basic form of fact that can come from anywhere.

This was said by Haria Saputry Wahyuni, SIPus., MIKom, lecturer in Library Science and Information Science at Widyatama University Bandung when presenting material at the National Information Science Seminar with the theme Information Science which was held at the Diplomacy Laboratory, FISIP A Building, National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) on Tuesday, November 7 2023 at 10.00-12.00 WIB.

This event, organized by the Information Science Study Program from the UPNVJ Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, is a form of collaboration between Widyatama University Bandung and UPNVJ in implementing agreements in the form of guest lectures and seminars.

Haria, a lecturer who has expertise in the fields of Expertise, Infopreneur, Information Literacy, Media Literacy, and Special Library, said that information can be anywhere, including within oneself. Therefore, it is important for students to study information science from various perspectives.

For example, Haria gave chocolate snacks to a student who was one of the seminar participants. He then asked the student to provide information about the taste of the chocolate.

"Information can come from ourselves when experiencing our daily experiences, starting from waking up to going to college, and stopping anywhere," said Haria.

"Apart from that, we eat anything from morning to night, and what we taste can be information for us to convey to anyone," he continued, when giving a presentation in front of 100 UPNVJ Information Science students.

Information Science has been implemented in the form of technology and has become an integral part, which aims to provide the widest possible information to the public.

Scientific Perspective

As said by the Head of the Information Science Study Program, Radita Gora, technology is a big source in the rapid flow of information. Many deviations in the form of disinformation and hate speech tend to accumulate on social media platforms installed on digital devices.

"It is important that holding this seminar aims to provide enlightenment and new knowledge for students, especially the Information Science study program, by studying various information sciences in everyday life and technology," said Radita in her speech.

Radita added, it is also hoped that this national seminar activity can become a means of discussion for Information Science students with academics from other universities in order to gain various different scientific perspectives.

"The main goal is to gain various scientific perspectives from the information field or other multidisciplinary fields, and students are also expected to be able to integrate performance synergies between two different universities and within the same study program," said Radita.

Entering the final session, the national seminar continued with the signing of the Implementation Agreement (IA) and group photos. Fitria Ayuningtyas, Deputy Dean I FISIP UPNVJ, hopes that collaboration between Widyatama University and UPNVJ can continue and synergize in the spirit of Tri Dharma Higher Education productivity or joint activities.
