HumasUPNVJ - FISIP UPN Veteran Jakarta held a knowledge sharing which was conducted online on March 1, 2022. This activity was packaged in a "Non-Thesis Final Assignment Writing Workshop ". The webinar was attended by the Chief Executive of the La Ode workshop Muhammad Fathun, S.IP., MHI, Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Anter Venus, MA.Comm., Deputy Dean of FISIP UPNVJ Dr. Kusumajanti, S.Sos., MM., M.Sc., Danis Tri Spautra Wahidin, S.IP, M.IP as moderator, two resource persons Indra Kusumawardhana and Pius Rino Pungkiawan, as well as workshop participants from lecturers and students.

The purpose of this workshop is so that lecturers and students can produce final assignments that are not monotonous as what Fathun said in his speech. "The final project is no longer in the form of a thesis. There are other creative models for the final project, including journals, short films, campaigns, etc," said Fathun. The final project in the form of a thesis is considered too conventional so there needs to be a new program that is more creative and varied because students have high creativity too. Campuses must be able to facilitate students in compiling final assignments according to student interests. In addition, the existence of the independent campus program encourages campuses to create non-thesis final project models as a form of commitment to liberating the learning process.

Another factor driving this policy is Rector Regulation no. 3 of 2021 concerning Guidelines for Final Assignments other than theses at UPN Veterans Jakarta. Therefore, as stated by Kusumajanti, FISIP UPNVJ wishes to realize this as well as to develop student interest so that they can choose more concentration on the fields of interest, especially in the industrial sector through work products other than theses. The expected final result is in the form of a production process report which is equivalent to a thesis. "This workshop is expected to be useful so as to increase the competency and competitiveness of students in various scientific fields. Adaptation, collaboration, and innovation are the answers to the rapid changes in modern society." he said.

The Vice Chancellor for academic affairs at UPN Veteran Jakarta explained further about the alternatives that students could choose in making their final assignment other than thesis. The first alternative that Venus describes is the Memorandum of Law. Students who choose this final assignment are asked to look for real cases and then position themselves as consultants, expert advisors, expert witnesses or other positions and provide legal opinions based on existing legal principles. Second, students can make Journal Articles. If students have conducted research, the collected data can be processed into a journal and then published. The last alternative is a Project which can be a short film, campaign, etc. For example Venus describes a campaign project. It was stated that this project was carried out collectively (in the form of a team) according to faculty policy. Through organizing the campaign, students determine which aspects of the campaign will be the focus of analysis.

After the presentation of the non-thesis final project policy, the activity continued with submissions from the speakers related to the works that could be taken as an alternative to the final project. It begins with Indra Kusumawardhana who explains the method of writing scientific journals. Then it was continued by Pius Rino Pungkiawan who explained how to make short films containing educational and scientific values. (sf)
