As a Campus with a State Defense identity Monday, October 21, 2015 all UPN "Veteran" Jakarta academics carry out the National Defense Day Ceremony which falls every December 19. Acting as Ceremonial Supervisor for Deputy Rector II Dr. Erna Hernawati, Ak, CPMA, CA. In the address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia which was read out by the Ceremonial Trustees, it was stated, among other things, that the President invited all Indonesian people to learn from the history of the nation's struggle to look to the future. Challenges and threats to national sovereignty are multidimensional in nature. That means, threats are no longer conventional or purely physical but have developed both physical and non-physical. Threats develop to be multidimensional because the character of the threat can originate from ideology, politics, economics, socio-culture. So this requires us to redefine what we mean by Defending the Country.

Efforts to be able to stand on one's own feet economically are also efforts to Defend the Country. Teachers, midwives and health workers who are struggling in remote corners of the country, in border areas, on the outer islands are actually doing State Defense. It is they who have made this Republic able to continue to exist to serve its people. Therefore, State Defense has a very broad spectrum in various fields of life, starting from politics, economics, social and culture. Defending the Country can be carried out by every citizen from various professional backgrounds: from farmers, laborers, professionals to traders. Defending the State can be realized in everyday life according to the role and profession of citizens. The President also reminded us all that our historical duty is to defend this country from poverty, backwardness, ignorance and dependency. The task of Defending the Country is the most difficult task that is in front of our eyes at this time. But with the spirit of unity, hard work and joint struggle, we can carry this historical task together.
