Increasing Children's Reading Interest with Literacy Tales in Cimanggu Village

HumasUPNVJ - The Thematic KKN student group from UPN Veteran Jakarta on Saturday, July 19 held a Literacy Tale. The activity was held at the Reading Garden which is right in front of the Cimanggu Village Hall. The purpose of holding this activity is to introduce elementary school students in Cimanggu village to the e-library, which is one of the work programs of the Thematic Community Service Program for UPN Veterans Jakarta students in Cimanggu village with the theme Digital Village Development.

There were 61 participants who attended the fairy tale literacy activity. They are students of SD Cimanggu 1 consisting of students from grades 1 to grade 6. The committee provides socialization for this activity by giving notifications directly to the school and also by word of mouth when the children are playing. This activity received great support from the SD Cimanggu 1 school. Hambali who is a teacher at SD Cimanggu 1 said that this activity was very useful. He hoped that this activity could foster students' interest in reading in Cimanggu village.

Interest in reading among Cimanggu village children is quite low. For this reason, students from the UPN Veteran Jakarta Thematic KKN team are looking for ways to build reading habits in children in a fun way. One of them with literacy fairy tales. In this activity, a video was played which contained a typical Banten fairy tale, namely Batu Kuwung, as well as several games which were of course fun for children. This can be seen from the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the children when participating in these activities.

This Literacy Tale was held for the first time in Cimanggu Village. However, in the future this activity is expected to continue to be held regularly. For this reason, the UPN Veteran Jakarta Student Thematic KKN team is trying to recruit volunteers who will later continue to hold this literacy storytelling activity. Thus, the Cimanggu children's interest and reading habits will continue and be maintained.
