Three UPNVJ Students Win 3rd Place in National Energy Debate Competition

HumasUPNVJ - Three students of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ), namely Faathir Andar Nurali and Muniratri Rachmita from the Faculty of Law, and Nadya Fayola Ramadhani from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), won third place nationally which is a brilliant achievement for the university at the beginning of the year. This debate team is called the Tiryata team with its iconic slogan "Bonding Menang Selalu.”

Organized by PT Visi Dunia Energi with its sponsor partners PT. Pertamina, PLN, Exxon Mobil, Elnusa, and other Indonesian mining companies, the series of competitions took place at Graha Udaya Elnusa, Jakarta on January 5, 2025.

This competition is a collaboration and scientific discussion event related to the fulfillment of the Net Zero Carbon 2060 target by utilizing sustainable energy knowledge in Indonesia. For this year, the competition carries the theme of the Golden Generation 2045 Working to Realize the Energy Transition.

The Future of Energy Transition

The process of achieving this achievement began with the selection of the Tiryata team to the top seven essay rankings from 32 national campuses. The Tiryata team then participated in the debate competition from the preliminary round, entered the top 16, semi-finals, and succeeded in winning third place in the national championship from 32 national universities throughout Indonesia.

Faathir admitted that he felt nervous because the competition was held without case building. "In addition, at first I was a bit inferior to compete against top 10 universities, such as ITB, UGM, and others, but we were able to prove that we were the best until we won 3rd place nationally," said Faathir.

For Nadya, the competition held by various agencies made her learn more about energy from various perspectives. Not only getting trophies and cash, she continued, the Tiryata team also gained knowledge and awareness to contribute to the transition and future of Indonesia's energy security.

Meanwhile, Muniratri believes that the student debate competition on energy and energy transition is not just a place to exchange arguments, but also a space for the younger generation to think critically, creatively, and provide solutions in facing future challenges.

"Hopefully, through this debate, fresh ideas will be born that can encourage a faster, fairer, and more sustainable energy transition. Because the future of energy is in our hands, and change begins with real thoughts and actions today," said Muniratri.
