HumasUPNVJ - During the Covid 19 Pandemic that has not yet ended, again and again students at the Jakarta Veterans National Development University can prove that this pandemic is not a barrier to keep achieving. This can be seen from the persistence of several UPNVJ students who managed to bring home extraordinary achievements, one of which was the achievement obtained by Nicholas Bhagasinsan, a 2018 UPNVJ Faculty of Law student who won the Bronze Medal in Baseball for Banten in the National Sports Week (PON). XX Papua 2021.
In his written report, Nicholas talked a lot with the UPNVJ Public Relations team about the preparations for the XX Papua PON which he participated in, "I started training with the Banten baseball team in January 2020, counting up to this year means I have been training with the Banten baseball team for almost 2 year. Our Banten team trains five days a week every Tuesday – Friday & Saturday Sunday. We also held a Training Camp where we lived together for two months in the Serang and Senayan areas to increase our team cohesiveness and solidarity. Initially, I took part in this competition because I wanted to make the Banten area proud by bringing a medal to the 2021 PON XX Papua competition. I also wanted to prove to myself that I could win a medal. I have been following baseball since I was 7 years old. I also won a gold medal with the DKI Jakarta Baseball team in 2016. With these achievements, I want to make my campus proud, where I studied," he said
From the information obtained by the PR team, the 2021 PON XX Papua Baseball Tournament which Nicholas participated in was held at the Sentani Baseball Field and Cendrawasih University Baseball Field, Jayapura, Papua, from 23 September to 3 October 2021 which was attended by regional teams participating in successfully passed the preliminary round at the 2019 PRE-PON, including: Banten, Lampung, West Java, Papua, East Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and DKI Jakarta.
“What I like is how compact the Banten Baseball team is and how supportive the Provincial Management of Banten City is towards their athletes. However, wherever that is there must also be sorrow, the grief is when I suffered an injury and tore my labrum which caused me to be unable to pitch and had to have surgery after the 2021 PON XX Papua ended. However, I changed my position to become a batter and I can still play at PON XX Papua 2021, and that is not an obstacle to keep fighting, continued Nicholas enthusiastically.
"My hope is that baseball in Indonesia can continue to grow and be widely known by Indonesian people. The message for other friends is let's continue to build Indonesian sports so that Indonesian sports can win international competitions such as the Asian Games and other prestigious Olympics. Close to the PR team.
