HumasUPNVJ - Chancellor of the Jakarta Veterans National Development University (UPNVJ) Dr. Erna Hernawati, Ak.CPMA.CA.CGOP asked the administrators of student organizations (ormawa) and student activity units (UKM) to prioritize academic studies when conveying aspirations related to problems that occur in society.

"Students must have empathy for the community. Moreover, UPNVJ students as state universities whose funding also comes from the people," Erna said in her remarks while inaugurating the Student Consultative Council (MPM), Student Executive Board (BEM), and 27 student activity units ( UKM) in the UPNVJ environment in the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Auditorium, UPNVJ Pondok Labu Campus, Jakarta, Friday (21/1/2022).

The Chancellor gave an example when a student demanded to disband the Student Regiment (Menwa) following the death of a UPNVJ student while participating in a raid organized by the Menwa Unit from another university. The Chancellor asked students to make a critical study of the existence of Menwa which could be submitted as a basis for dissolving Menwa.

According to the Chancellor, UPNVJ has many competent lecturers who students can ask to guide academic studies that will be carried out. Aspirations based on academic studies and data will have a solid foundation.

"I will be very proud, when students come and say they want to fight for something, then bring academic studies and data. UPNVJ students should not be a hoax generation. When conveying something, it must be based on data," he said.

The Chancellor said the university and faculties would provide support to student organizations and UKM as well as programs that had been planned based on the hierarchical paths that were in effect at UPNVJ.

Ormawa and UKM are asked not only to be oriented towards the results of activities, but also to be oriented towards good management of activities and organizations. The opportunity to become administrators for ormawa and UKM must be utilized as a provision when joining the community after graduation.

"When younger siblings go into society, they already understand the function of being a leader who is able to communicate and collaborate with various parties," he said.
