Prof. TNI).
Speaking in front of around 4,000 new UPN Veterans Jakarta students, Deddy stressed the importance of strengthening the mentality so that Indonesian youth will become a strong, resilient generation.
"Don't want to be called a State Defendant. If you are scolded for the slightest bit, you will immediately go into a mental state. As previously said by Pak (Minister of Defense) Prabowo Subianto, all of you are the next generation of the nation," said Deddy.
To strengthen the youth's mentality, Deddy said that they all needed to first understand the history of the Indonesian nation. Life in the past, especially during the colonial era, was much more difficult than today.
Deddy said that the kings of Indonesia in the past had to wait patiently when they wanted to eat. But in today's era, one can easily go to a restaurant or order food via an application.
"You have extraordinary privileges. You can live in peace, you can heal in Bali, and if you want to eat, just order. Mr. Prabowo said, all of that was the result of the hard work of our heroes," said Deddy.
After understanding the nation's history, continued Deddy, Indonesian youths must also continue the struggle of the heroes. Certainly not the struggle to take up firearms as in wartime, but in another form.
The struggle can be carried out by Indonesian youth, including UPNVJ students, through their perseverance and seriousness in studying their respective disciplines. While outside the academic field, youth can also contribute to the struggle to maintain national integrity by preventing divisions in society.
"As young people, what should you do to Defend the Country? You can start with small things, such as loving the nation and state and its people, not being easily pitted against one another, and being willing to accept all differences," said Deddy.
"All of you are the successors of the nation. I believe that the future of Indonesia is in your hands. Defend the Country!" he concluded.
