UPNVJ and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur Agreed on International KKN for PMI Children

HumasUPNVJ - In the context of a cooperative visit between the Jakarta "Veteran" National Development University and four universities in Malaysia and Singapore, UPNVJ Chancellor Dr. Anter Venus MA Comm had the opportunity to have a discussion with the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Mr. Drs. Hermione, MA

Meeting at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, 21 August 2023, Venus and Ambassador Hermono discussed various possibilities for UPNVJ to participate in solving various problems of Indonesian workers (TKI) or Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Malaysia.

The focus of the discussion was directed more towards the education problems of PMI children in Malaysia. Currently, there are thousands of PMI children who are neglected and do not get proper education.

They cannot access education in Malaysia for various reasons, ranging from financial constraints to the status of some of them as children of undocumented workers.

This problem is a hidden problem, and does not get the attention of the Indonesian public. In fact, this is a serious problem because it concerns the future of Indonesia's young generation.

Ambassador Hermono, who paid great attention to this problem, found a solution in the form of expanding a school for Indonesian children in Kuala Lumpur. He also formed a Community Learning Center (CLC) which non-formally provides learning assistance for PMI children.

The learning center that was formed was principally funded independently by the Indonesian people, especially those who work or live in Kuala Lumpur.

The continuation of this learning center requires the involvement of various parties, including universities in Indonesia. In this regard, it was agreed that UPNVJ would be involved in conducting international KKN in the form of CLC empowerment, including in developing the learning process at the tutoring center.

"UPNVJ is committed to being involved in educating PMI children who are Indonesia's younger generation. Activities will begin in the following semester," said Venus.
