UPNVJ Holds Nationalism Training for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Johor Malaysia

Public Relations UPNVJ - M​Lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) has held an International Community Service (PKM) activity with the theme Strengthening Nationalism among the Indonesian Community in Malaysia, which was carried out in collaboration with the Association Indonesian Muslim Family (IKMI) in Johor Baru.

This activity was held at the Dewan Ikram Complex Hall, Johor Baru, Malaysia.

"Alhamdulillah, we are very happy to be able to stay in touch with fellow Indonesians in Johor and share about nationalism and strengthening social capital with foreign exchange heroes from various regions," said Dr. Munadhil, Chair of the International PKM Team and Lecturer at the UPNVJ Communication Science Department.

Furthermore, Munadhil hopes that this activity - as part of the Tridharma of Higher Education - can increase understanding and skills, especially among migrant workers in the economic, social and resilience fields.

"Academics and students must also pay attention to the problems of people outside who need attention and support," said Munadhil, who also serves as Chair of the Communication Sciences Department, FISIP UPNVJ.

Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs FISIP UPNVJ, Dr. Fitria, said that this agenda was possible thanks to collaboration and support from many parties.

"This is the first international PKM activity carried out by FISIP UPNVJ Lecturers. I thank the Chancellor, all the Deputy Chancellors, LPPM especially the Chair of LPPM, the Dean of FISIP UPNVJ and our partners, namely IKMI Johor Bahru and Universiti Teknologi MARA/UiTM for their support and assistance, " added Fitria.

Dr. Faisal as Chairman of IKMI Johor Bahru also appreciated this activity. He said this activity could increase unity and social modality for refinery workers in Malaysia, especially in Johor.

"We were happy to be visited by academics and students from UPN Veteran Jakarta. We hope that this activity and collaboration can continue in the future," he said.

This International PKM activity is focused on strengthening nationalism for Indonesian citizens (WNI) residing in Malaysia. This activity, which was held at the IKRAM Johor Complex, was also attended by 12 students from various study programs at FISIP UPNVJ.

Taking place over two days on 3-4 August 2024, activities start from 09.00 to 15.00 UTC. The activity was attended by 30 members of IKMI Johor Bahru on the first day, and 50 members on the second day.

The activity was officially opened by Tamsir, President of IKMI Johor Bahru, who appreciated this collaboration and hoped that similar activities could continue in the future.

In a series of events, five FISIP UPNVJ lecturers provided various materials, ranging from strengthening the 4 pillars of nationality, good money management habits, digital literacy, to soft skills training.

It is hoped that this material will provide useful insights and skills for Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
