UPNVJ Chancellor Discusses Crisis Communication in the Digital Era at the National Seminar of the Department of Communication Sciences

HumasUPNVJ - The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UPN “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) successfully held a National Seminar on Communication Science with speakers Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, Rector of UPNVJ and Dr. Rino F. Boer, who is the Director of Postgraduate Program, LSPR Institute of Communication and Business who discussed Crisis Communication in the Digital Era, on Tuesday (11/02/25).

The event, which was attended by 110 participants from academics, students, and communication practitioners, took place at the UPNVJ FISIP Auditorium and also served as an event for the launch and discussion of the book Crisis Communication by Dr. Fitria Ayuningtyas, a lecturer in communication science at UPNVJ FISIP and a number of other authors published by Erlangga Publishing.

The seminar was opened by Munadhil Abdul Muqsith, Ph.D, Head of the Department of Communication Science, FISIP UPNVJ. In his opening speech, Munadhil emphasized the importance of a deep understanding of crisis communication, especially in the fast-paced and dynamic digital era.

As a keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Anter Venus, who is also a Communication Science expert and the Chancellor of UPNVJ, conveyed the urgency of a preventive approach in dealing with a crisis.

"Protecting yourself from an ongoing or impending crisis should be a top priority. A preventive approach is needed so that we do not only focus on treatment after a crisis occurs," said Prof. Venus.

In addition, Dr. Rino F. Boer, in his presentation discussed the vital role of public relations which requires high sensitivity and digital literacy in identifying and responding to crisis issues quickly and effectively.

Meanwhile, Dr. Fitria Ayuningtyas, a lecturer in the Master of Communication Studies Program, FISIP UPNVJ, also encouraged students to always have broad insight in facing the challenges of various communication issues in the digital era.

Rizal Pahlevi, Chief Editor of PT Penerbit Erlangga, also gave his views on the importance of communication literacy for the wider community through books and lecture materials.

As the closing event, Dr. Fitria Ayuningtyas launched the book Crisis Communication Short Lecture Series, including signing the authors' mini posters from Erlangga publisher.

"This book is expected to be a guide for students and the general public in understanding the role of communication when facing a crisis," said Fitria.
