Chancellor Reminds Three Disruptions That Will Be Faced by Graduates

HumasUPNVJ - Chancellor of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta Prof. Dr. Erna Hernawati Ak. CPMA, CA reminded the graduates who were inaugurated at the 69th Graduation that they will face three disruptions when they enter the world of work, so they need to do lifelong learning.

“The short lecture period certainly does not allow us to study all the knowledge in depth. The lecture system is not fast enough to keep up with the changes. Lectures only equip basic knowledge, scientific thinking skills, and build character and positive attitudes," said the Chancellor at the 69th Graduation of UPNVJ Diplomas, Bachelors, Professions and Masters Programs held at the Jakarta Convention Center Convention Center, Jakarta, Sunday ( 25/9/2022).

The Chancellor said the three disruptions that the graduates would face, apart from disruption due to the industrial revolution 4.0, were disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic and disruption from the millennial generation. The era of disruption has several characteristics that can be explained through VUCA conditions, namely volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

Volatility is massive and fast change, with patterns that are difficult to predict, so it must be overcome with flexibility. Uncertainty is uncertainty due to rapid changes that must be overcome by increasing understanding and awareness.

Complexity is the complexity of the relationship between factors that cause change that must be faced by building collaboration and connections. Meanwhile, ambiguity is a lack of clarity of direction that must be overcome with agility or agility, which is a character that has the ability to quickly adapt to changes that are as extreme as anything.

The Chancellor also asked the graduates to pay close attention to the 2020 World Economic Forum report which stated that there was a relatively high gap between worker competence and the qualifications required by the job market.

“The market needs workers who have creativity, critical thinking and analytical skills such as problem solving and self management; active learning, resilience ability is the ability to get up and recover when something doesn't go as expected and the ability to manage stress," he said.

The market also expects workers to have a growth mindset, namely an open mindset for various information, not giving up easily, and having an agile spirit, namely the enthusiasm to develop a mindset or the spirit to develop a mindset with the right method, fast, agile, and adaptive.

UPNVJ inaugurated 1,840 graduates consisting of 287 Diploma 3 (D-3) Program graduates, 1,261 Undergraduate (S-1) Program graduates, 228 Professional Program graduates, and 64 Masters Program graduates.
