HumasUPNVJ - Department of Political Science UPN "Veteran" Jakarta and the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) Hold a Joint Conference on the Democratization Experiences of Indonesia and the Philippines
In order to increase understanding and academic discussion on democratization, the Political Science Department of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta held a joint conference with the University of the Philippines Diliman with the theme "Comparing Democratization Experiences Indonesia and the Philippines" on Wednesday, 23 August 2023.
UPNVJ Chancellor Dr. Anter Venus said that this event could be a stepping stone for future collaboration between UPNVJ and UPD. "There are various forms of collaboration that we can do to develop institutions, lecturers and students, and this will be useful for the development of society," said Venus.
Ambassador Gina A Jamoralin also said that Indonesia and the Philippines have a lot in common, especially regarding the values of freedom and democracy. Therefore, connectivity between the people of Indonesia and the Philippines is something very important.
The keynote speaker in this international conference is Prof. Edward Aspinall from the Australian National University and Prof Jorge V Tigno from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
In the conference, Prof. Edward Aspinall presented the results of his study regarding the comparative experiences of democratization between Indonesia and the Philippines by comparing the similarities and differences in experiences between the two countries.
Meanwhile Prof. Jorge V Tigno explained about the democratization journey experienced by the Philippines under the title "The Philippine Democratization Saga: Milestones, Mainstays, and Trajectories."
It is hoped that this conference will be an effective forum for exchanging ideas, research findings, and in-depth discussions on the experiences of democratization in Indonesia and the Philippines.
