Public Relations UPNVJ - After going through the odd semester holiday period, UPN "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) students are starting their study period again with online lectures.
This decision was taken by the academic department considering the close time to the general election day which will be held on 14 February.
"By considering the distance and time between the start of lectures and the time of the general election and also considering students who come from outside Jabodetabek, we decided to carry out lectures online," said Dr. Henry BH Sitorus, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs when met on Tuesday (13/02/24).
"In this way, students from regional areas can calmly take part in democratic parties or general elections without having to take care of moving polling stations," he added
On his occasion, he said this was also related to the campus' identity as a National Defense campus so that it has a commitment to participate in and make the democratic party or general election a success which is held every 5 years.
"We are worried that they will not use their voting rights (abstention), we as the State Defense campus are committed to making the simultaneous elections a success. "We hope that students can take part in elections in their respective regions and can still take part in the lectures that we hold online," he added.
Henry also said that in the second week students could return to Jakarta to attend face-to-face lectures.
"My message is, take part in voting in the next general election, use your voting rights to elect Indonesia's future leaders and don't forget to attend lectures to the fullest even though online we have provided adequate facilities," explained Henry.
He also advised students to get the most out of online lectures because UPNVJ has provided the LeADS LMS platform. UPNVJ LeADS Learning Management System (LMS) where students can see lecture material clearly and sufficient zoom media is available on campus.
Regarding this, Tito Dos Santos Baptista Jr., one of the Information Science students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, said that the campus made a good decision to conduct online lectures so that students could participate and use their voting rights in the voting elections in their respective domiciles.
"I agree with the decision made by the campus because in the near future we will hold general elections, but with online lectures I am not suitable for effectiveness, but it all comes back to each individual. "Personally, I don't like online lectures, because in my opinion studying offline is quicker to understand the lessons and the mood to study is better because I meet lots of friends," said Tito on his occasion.
