KPU Involves UPNVJ 'To Witness the Practice of Electoral Democracy in Indonesia Through the IEVP Event

Public Relations UPNVJ – In the context of the 2024 simultaneous General Elections for President and Vice President and Legislative, the General Election Commission (KPU) held "Indonesia's Election Visit Program (IEVP)" for four days (12-15/02).

"Starting in 2004, elections were held to elect the President, members of the DPR, members of the DPD, members of the Provincial DPRD and City Regency DPRD. This shows accountability or compatibility between the values held by Indonesian citizens, the values of being a Muslim and the democracy practiced in Indonesia ," said Hasyim Asy'ari, Chairman of the KPU, in his speech at the Sangri-La Hotel, Central Jakarta, Monday (12/02) evening.

The KPU has routinely held what is called the Indonesia Election Visit Program six times since 2014. This program is carried out every time an election is held to facilitate parties who want to see the election or election processes at the TPS, as well as to hold conferences that include matters relating to elections in the situation leading up to voting day.

In this activity, the KPU also invited Election Organizers from Friendly Countries, Representatives of Embassies from Friendly Countries, Collaborating Partner Universities, and Election Activists both National and International, as well as related Ministries/Institutions.

UPN "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) is one of seven universities in Indonesia that is respectfully invited by the KPU to participate in witnessing the process of holding the 2024 elections. Apart from UPNVJ, representatives from UI, ITB, USU, UNDIP, UNAND, and UNIB.

UPNVJ Chancellor, Dr. Anter Venus, MA., Comm accompanied by one of the lecturers in the Political Science study program and political observer, Danis Tri Saputra W., S.IP., MIP, was present at the opening of the IEVP.

Venus explained that this year's UPNVJ felt honored and proud to be directly involved in witnessing the practice of electoral democracy in the country with the largest Muslim community in the world.

Participants will also be invited to watch the voting process at the Polling Place (TPS) which will be visited on the third day of the event (coinciding with the 2024 Election Day, namely 14 February 2024).

"So our participation in this IEVP event is to receive explanations and visit and discuss elections in Indonesia. "Election Management Bodies from other countries, yes, KPU from other countries also witnessed the process of holding elections in Indonesia." Venus explained to UPNVJ Public Relations who was also present at the IEVP opening ceremony yesterday.

Meanwhile, based on an explanation from the KPU Commissioner, Mochamad Afifuddin, it is known that the TPS locations that will be visited by neighboring countries are located in 3 provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java. (sf)
