HumasUPNVJ - Three lecturers from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of the National Veteran Development University of Jakarta (UPNVJ), namely Ardli Johan Kusuma (Lecturer in the Political Science Study Program), Dini Putri Saraswati (Lecturer in the International Relations Study Program), and Jati Satrio (Lecturer in the International Relations Study Program), participated in the RIGHTS Project Closing Workshop at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The RIGHTS Project is a research project focused on migrant workers. Led by Evelyn Ersanilli, the research project is fully funded by the European Research Council and has produced a lot of research related to migrant workers.
As a closing of the series of research activities that have been carried out, the RIGHTS Project invites all research partners, including those from UPNVJ, to disseminate their research.
The research led by Ardli Johan Kusuma entitled "The Role of Labor Union in Fighting for the Political Rights of Indonesian Female Migrant Workers in Taiwan" discusses the fulfillment of political rights of Indonesian migrant workers, especially women, in elections in Taiwan assisted by Indonesian migrant worker advocacy groups.
The dissemination of this research sparked an interesting discussion from the participants. The results of the research presented succeeded in opening up new perspectives for the migrant worker researchers present, that migrant workers not only have civil rights, but as citizens, they also have political rights whose existence must be guaranteed.
"This activity is aimed at disseminating research related to migrant workers through perspectives from various countries and backgrounds. The issue of migrant workers is an important issue considering the mobility of workers and the vulnerability of the fulfillment of migrant workers' rights," said Evelyn Ersanilli.
Furthermore, Evelyn as the head of the RIGHTS Project appreciated the participation and activeness of the participants in the workshop activities.
Advanced, Superior and Global
"This activity is a great opportunity to expand international networks, as well as share knowledge from research results conducted by researchers and invited participants from various countries and from various leading campuses in the world," said Ardli Johan Kusuma as the head researcher from UPNVJ.
The participation of the three FISIP UPNVJ lecturers in this workshop was fully funded by the RIGHTS Project. This activity shows the spirit of FISIP UPNVJ to become a faculty that is increasingly advanced, superior and global.
In addition, this activity also supports the achievement of the Higher Education Key Performance Indicators (IKU), specifically IKU 3 and IKU 6, namely lecturers carrying out tri dharma activities outside the campus and collaborating with world-class partners.
The RIGHTS Project Closing Workshop was attended by participants from various universities, research organizations, and non-governmental organizations, such as the University of Amsterdam, University of Oslo, University of Gothenburg, University of Glasgow, Metropolitan University, University of Melbourne, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Cornell University, Peace Research Institute Oslo, Southeast and East Asian Center, African Migration and Development Policy Center, Global Migration Policy Associates, Korea Labor Institute, Fairwork, and the National Development University “Veteran” Jakarta.
