HumasUPNVJ - In order to commemorate World Philosophy Day, the MKWK Center of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a Studium Generale of Philosophy on Saturday, November 23, 2024. This activity was attended by all students taking the Philosophy and Logic course as one of the compulsory courses in the curriculum. (MKWK).
The resource person presented at this general study was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Usluhiddin and Islamic Thought, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Dr. Fahruddin Faiz.
Pak Faiz, the nickname of Dr. Fahruddin Faiz, is a very popular philosophy “spokesperson” in cyberspace today. Pak Faiz’s presence has received a wide welcome from the Indonesian people thanks to his light and easy-to-understand delivery.
The studium generale activity was opened by UPNVJ Rector Anter Venus, who revealed that the inclusion of Philosophy and Logic courses is a unique feature. The reason is, it is rarely found in many universities in Indonesia.
In fact, the existence of these courses is very important for the development of scientific culture in universities and civilization in general.
Critical Thinking Process
Venus revealed the importance of Philosophy and Logic for students lies in the fact that the Indonesian education system rarely applies critical thinking in the learning and teaching process. Finally, students are accustomed to accepting information at face value.
This condition can be seen from the activities in the classroom that tend to be one-way. According to Venus, this kind of culture has a negative impact on the process of developing knowledge at the university. Therefore, he emphasized that he would continue to pay attention to the implementation of Philosophy and Logic courses.
In this general stadium, Venus gave a message to UPNVJ students to continue to develop critical thinking patterns. The process of developing critical thinking patterns can be done in many ways, one of which is to utilize rapidly developing information and communication technology.
According to him, currently the availability of videos about philosophy is easy to find and access, so it is an opportunity for students to continue learning and developing their academic culture.
