UPNVJ Equips Lecturers and Education Staff in Preparing for Retirement: Towards a New, More Positive and Prosperous Life HumasUPNVJ

HumasUPNVJ – Welcoming the retirement period of 25 of its employees, UPN “Veteran” Jakarta (UPNVJ) held a Retirement Preparation Period (MPP) activity attended by 12 lecturers and 13 education staff. The activity, which took place at the Arya Duta Hotel, Bandung, aims to equip participants with various skills, knowledge, and mental readiness in facing retirement.

In his speech, UPNVJ Rector Dr. Anter Venus, MA., Comm emphasized that entering retirement is not easy and requires thorough preparation, both physically and mentally. "Many face challenges in the form of post - power syndrome , which can affect social relationships, health, and financial conditions. Retirement without good preparation can have a negative impact on those who are used to an intense work rhythm," he said.

Venus also introduces five important stages in retirement, namely:

  1. Pre Retirement – The stage approaching retirement, where mixed feelings begin to emerge; some feel that the time is still long, while others feel that the time is very near.
  2. Honeymoon – The initial stage of retirement, where feelings of relief and happiness often arise, free from the burden of work and receiving pension funds.
  3. Disenchantment – The stage where feelings of boredom, loss of role and productivity arise, which can have an impact on mental health.
  4. Reorientation – This stage encourages retirees to rediscover the meaning of life and adjust to new realities.
  5. Stability – The final stage, where they have found balance in life and feel more positive and happy.

This retirement preparation training program seeks to provide in-depth benefits to participants, including financial knowledge to manage finances to remain prosperous, social readiness, training independence with employee and entrepreneurial characters, and preparing mentally to be more peaceful and happy in living retirement.

"With this training, we hope that employees can enter retirement with strong mental readiness and maintained financial capabilities, and still have value in society," added Venus.

This activity is expected to be a good start to accompany lecturers and education staff in the UPNVJ environment in welcoming the new phase of their lives with a more positive and productive attitude.
