UPNVJ and TIKA Promote Community Participation-Based Waste Management

HumasUPNVJ - A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering, National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) conducted a survey at the Limo Waste Processing Unit (UPS), Depok City, West Java, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Budhi Martana and his team conducted a survey of waste processing locations as an implementation of cooperation between FT UPNVJ and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) regarding waste processing that involves the active participation of local residents.

In this survey, the FT UPNVJ lecturer team discussed with the Depok City Cleaning and Parks Service which is responsible for managing UPS Limo.

This discussion covers various technical and operational aspects of waste processing, including the processing methods that have been implemented, the problems faced, and the potential for collaboration to improve the effectiveness of waste management in the area.

"We interact with the surrounding community who will later be directly involved in waste management. This is done because the surrounding community will continue this waste management in the future," said Budhi.

Community participation is a key element in this collaborative program, considering that the sustainability of the waste processing system is highly dependent on the awareness and active involvement of the surrounding community.

"The collaboration between FT UPNVJ and TIKA is expected to provide innovative solutions in waste management, both through technological approaches and community empowerment. With this survey, FT UPNVJ gets a clearer picture of conditions in the field, so that it can design appropriate and sustainable programs," added Budhi.

This location survey is an action of a series of cooperation agendas that will be carried out in the near future. In the future, FT UPNVJ and TIKA will continue to coordinate with related parties to realize a more effective and environmentally friendly waste processing program at UPS Limo.
