HumasUPNVJ - UPN Veteran Jakarta is again proud of the many achievements of all academics, one of which is the acquisition of a Simple Patent that has been obtained by Ir. Lilik Zulaihah, M.Si, Ir. Amir Marabessy, MT, Rifa Arifati ST, MT with the title of Invention: Method of Absorption of Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons (Pahs) in Seawater Using Natural Bentonite Adsorbents” with patent number IDS000003933 which was announced on July 6, 2021.
The title taken by Lililk and the team is a method for absorbing poly aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollutant types benzo(a) pyrene in seawater at Tanjung Priok port using natural bentonite adsorbents. This PAH is pollution that comes from fuel and exhaust gas of motorized vehicles (exhaust/chimney). PAHs of the benzo(a) pyrene type are carcinogenic, namely substances that cause cancer cells to grow. Bentonite adsorbent is a cheap type of clay. It is hoped that in the future the adsorbent can be used to clean seawater, it can be installed on the shoreline or the hull of the ship when the ship is anchored, the adsorbent indirectly cleans seawater. So that the sea water is clean and not contaminated with poly aromatic hydrocarbon pollutants.
The UPNVJ Public Relations Team conducted an online interview with Ir. Lilik Zulaihah, M.Si representing Ir. Amir Marabessy, MT and Rifa Arifat ST, MT. In his interview, Lilik explained the process and steps in obtaining this patent, "The process of obtaining a patent is also quite time-consuming, because there are several stages that we have to complete, such as creating an invention according to an existing template , registering and filling out forms online . via e-patent , inspection of the completeness of the invention by the examining team of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and substantive examination," he explained
According to Lilik, there were no significant obstacles in the process. “In the process, we feel, the obstacle we faced was a long time. The time from registration to receipt and issuance of our patent certificate took quite a long time, namely five years, judging from our year of receipt/registration, 2016-08-04," concluded Lilik.
At the end of his interview with the Public Relations team, Lilik advised all UPNVJ lecturers to always be enthusiastic about making patents, "For fellow lecturers, let's be enthusiastic about making patents, we can definitely do it. Nothing is difficult if we have an unyielding spirit to always try.” Close Lily
