Public Relations UPNVJ - Students of the Class B1 Intellectual Property Rights Course, Faculty of Law, National Development University "Veteran" UPNVJ held community service activities (abdimas) for people with disabilities with the theme "Utilizing Copyright Understanding of Local Works of People with Disabilities in Improving the Creative Economy."
This activity involved 16 FH UPNVJ students and a course lecturer, namely Rianda Dirkareshza, SH, MH. A total of 15 event participants were members of the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation. The event took place at the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation guest house, Cilandak, South Jakarta on Tuesday, November 28 2023.
This time, community service was carried out by collaborating with the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation as an organization that focuses on the development of people with disabilities, especially on skills training in various fields.
The main focus of this community service is to socialize the importance of copyright as a form of Intellectual Property Rights protection for people with disabilities.
The activity began with a welcome from representatives of the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation, namely Fendo Parama Sardi as manager. He expressed his deepest gratitude to the UPNVJ community service team who were willing to share their knowledge about copyright with the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation.
Fendo also advised that the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation could continue to collaborate with FH UPNVJ in the future.
Rianda Dirkareshza, SH, MH as lecturer in the Intellectual Property Rights Course gave a speech and opened the event. In his speech, he said that this service was an implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, where students can share the knowledge they have gained with the surrounding community.
He hopes that with this activity, people with disabilities can understand the importance of copyright as a form of protection for the works they have created.
The first resource person at the event was Ms. Meurina Desthabu, who delivered material regarding copyright and brands as Intellectual Property Rights. In his material, he explained the definition, objectives, time period, and how to register copyright and trademark rights.
Apart from that, Meurina also explained the legal consequences that would be received if someone did not register Intellectual Property Rights.
Lintang Aulia Zahra, as the second resource person, explained about legal protection for creative economy actors with disabilities. The creative economy is an effort that focuses on the creativity of business actors in responding to developments in the digital era.
However, the development of the digital world also has negative impacts such as plagiarism on e-commerce. Therefore, creative economy actors are required to provide legal protection for their businesses, for example by registering the legality of the business and registering Intellectual Property Rights. In this way, creative economy actors can run their businesses without any legal concerns.
Furthermore, after providing the material, the event continued with an interactive discussion session between participants and resource persons. The event closed with an online post test as an indicator of participants' understanding after socialization.
Not only providing counseling, the FH UPNVJ team also carried out direct practice by registering copyrights for people with disabilities in the form of applied works owned by the Cheshire Indonesia Foundation. This is the real result of the FH UPNVJ community service activities this time.
