UPNVJ Chancellor Imposed Administrative Sanctions Regarding Academic Integrity Violations

The Chancellor of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta, Anter Venus, has issued a decision on administrative sanctions to four lecturers who were involved in violating the values of academic integrity in producing scientific work on Wednesday, August 7 2024.

The determination of this administrative sanction was taken based on the recommendation of the UPNVJ Senate, guided by Permendikbudristek Number 39 of 2021 concerning Academic Integrity in Producing Scientific Work.

"So, in principle, we are implementing what the senate recommended and combining it with the results of the rectorate team's study of existing regulations," stressed Venus.

The University Senate classifies administrative sanctions into three categories, namely light, medium and heavy. The four lecturers involved have received administrative sanctions, ranging from postponement of promotions to academic positions to termination of lecturer positions for one year.

Based on article 20 of Permendikbudristek No. 39/2021, academics who are subject to sanctions can submit written objections accompanied by reasons within 21 days of the sanctions being imposed.

Venus also emphasized that this decision was taken as a form of coaching. "We make sanctions decisions based on guidance, not destruction. We also try to act fairly, productively, positively and accountably," he said.

"We are also trying to fully understand the situation behind the actions that violate the values of academic integrity in producing scientific work," said Venus, after handing over the Administrative Sanction Decree to the four relevant lecturers in the UPNVJ Pondok Labu Campus Chancellor's Meeting Room.

According to Venus, the imposition of these sanctions can be said to be a disaster. He emphasized that this incident was not something that needed to be promoted or echoed. On the other hand, Venus invited the entire academic community to show empathy, respect the lecturers affected by the disaster, and learn lessons from this incident.

"We empathize, what if the mistake was made by us. It's not impossible that this happened to all of us, because we didn't realize that things that used to be considered normal, now with Ministerial Decree 39 can become wrong actions. Actions that fall into the category of violating academic integrity, Venus said.

UPNVJ is committed to increasing literacy or understanding and awareness of academic integrity. For this reason, UPNVJ will organize academic integrity outreach involving the Senate, the Academic Integrity Committee, and the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), which in this case is closely related to academic integrity.

Through this intensive outreach, it is hoped that the literacy level of lecturers and students related to academic integrity in producing scientific work will increase so that incidents like this do not happen again in the future.
