Preparation of the Faculty of Engineering to Open a Textile Engineering Study Program

HumasUPNVJ – This year's UPNVJ is one of the list of universities ready to accept prospective new students. Various preparations have been made by each Faculty. Including FT, which plans to open a new study program this year, namely the Textile Engineering study program.

UPNVJ Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Anter Venus confirmed the plan to open textile engineering as a new study program. "As far as I can remember, I am sending another letter to Ristekdikti (now Kemendikbud, ed) said Anter Venus to ASPIRASI on Wednesday (12/02).

The Dean of FT UPNVJ, Reda Rizal said the reason for opening this new department was because there were no State Universities (PTN) that opened the study program. According to Reda, UPNVJ has many lecturers who are experts in the field of textiles, so he believes that UPNVJ meets the requirements to form this new study program.

Reda also added that the amount of interest and demand in the realm of the textile industry is growing from year to year. This makes Reda sure that this major will be in great demand by prospective new students.

"Indonesia's own production to produce textiles is not covered, so many are imported. This means that textiles are needed, meaning someone has to make them," said Reda to ASPIRASI on Friday (14/2).

Even though the application for this new major has been made since June 2019, in fact, until now FT has not obtained permission from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Reda said, over time there are requirements that have not been met. "The requirement is that all documents must be in their original form, not photocopied or scanned," said Reda.

Reda said that he and other board members were still working on licensing related to this new department. Reda himself believes that the preparation for the Faculty of Engineering has reached 95%. "If the permit is issued (this year, red) we can still distribute it to accept students but through the independent route," said Reda.

The man who has a hobby of listening to music added that later students who take this study program will get a Bachelor's degree. "So the study program is textile engineering undergraduate program," Reda added.

Reda responded that textile engineering would later adopt international and domestic curricula. The curriculum will also refer to what is agreed upon by the Indonesian textile association. "Because the association knows about this textile curriculum. So it's not a ministry," closed Reda to ASPIRASI.
