Public Relations UPNVJ - National Development University (UPN) "Veteran" Jakarta Research Ethics Committee through the 6th webinar series with the theme The Importance of Research Ethics in Multidisciplinary Sciences which invites all researchers to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of ethics in research in all scientific disciplines.
The 6th webinar series was attended by more than 300 participants, both researchers from UPNVJ and outside UPNVJ, who were active in the discussion forum which was held on Thursday, (!8/07/24).
Each material starts from a basic understanding of research ethics, procedures and requirements for obtaining ethical clearance guarantees, and even develops into various cases of ethical violations which are currently the topic of media coverage.
"The message is about the importance of integrity and ethics in every research to ensure results that can be trusted and are beneficial to the wider community," said Prof. Dr. Dr. M. Guritno in his speech
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Henry Binsar Hamonangan Sitorus, who in this case represented the Chancellor of UPNVJ, emphasized in his direction as well as opening the event that research is one of the main tasks that must be carried out by every higher education academic community and must always comply with ethical and scientific principles (ethically sound and scientifically sound) .
Dr. Dr. Anna Rozaliyani, also said that research criteria that meet ethically sound and scientifically sound through validation and verification processes that guarantee the safety and comfort of research subjects carried out by the Research Ethics Committee are described in the "Research Ethics Review,"
"The stage of achieving research results that are meaningful, solid and beneficial to the wider community can be achieved when the review process of the research design is carried out well, as proven by ethical clearance ," said Dr. Anna.
The argument for the importance of ethical clearance in research was answered in the material theme "The Importance of Ethical Clearance in Research," which was delivered by Harnawan Rizky, S.Si, MOHRE.
The process and procedure for obtaining ethical clearance for each ethical committee institution has a different character, which can be done offline or online, so the material containing the tutorial " Ethical clearance application system" presented by is important for every researcher to understand.
These three material themes lead researchers to produce research in accordance with the objectives of the 6th webinar series, namely increasing awareness and understanding of research that meets ethically sound and scientifically sound , namely research that is meaningful, solid and useful. This was guided by Dian Luthfiana Sufyan, S.Gz ., M. Nutrition.
The series of materials and discussions in this 6th webinar series can lead us to the role of an Ethics Committee in every institution that conducts research to ensure the credibility and integrity of researchers so that they can produce research that is meaningful, solid and beneficial to the wider community.
The independence of the Ethics Committee is very necessary to maintain and be free from conflicts of interest, it is not subjective who the researcher is but how a research design meets the basic principles of ethics to ensure that the human rights of research subjects must be well protected, the benefits of research results must be greater than the risks borne by research subjects and upholding the principles of justice towards subjects.
The principle of justice towards subjects is to treat other people fairly, appropriately and appropriately according to their rights. A fair situation is that someone gets benefits or burdens in accordance with their rights or conditions.
The subject's right to participate voluntarily, guarantee of confidentiality of subject data by the researcher, provision of appropriate compensation, as well as the right to withdraw and compensation for the subject must be guaranteed by the researcher.
What if researchers use subjects taken from services provided by researchers? This must be a concern for researchers to achieve research results that are meaningful, solid and useful, and should not commit ethical violations, both in the research process, treatment of research subjects, and dissemination of research results in scientific publications. Academic integrity in scientific work must be upheld in higher education institutions, including UPNVJ.
Increased awareness and understanding of research ethics in each field of science in this 6th webinar series is measured based on comparative indicators of pre and post test results carried out, so that it will become the basis for evaluation for the next webinar series.
