Pekanlit 2024: Seminar and Workshop on Ethics and AI Utilization Enliven the Third Day of Pekanlit

HumasUPNVJ – The series of activities for Pekanlit 2024 today, Wednesday, August 29, 2024, entered the third day by holding a seminar and workshop that focused on ethics and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research. This event was held at the Diplomacy Laboratory at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), which was attended by UPNVJ lecturers and students.

Today's seminar raised the theme "Ethics of Using AI in Writing Books and Research Outputs" presented by Dr. Ide Bagus Saputra, a member of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology's Publication Ethics Team and a lecturer from the University of Surabaya.

In his presentation, Dr. Ide Bagus discussed the importance of ethical awareness in the use of AI technology to ensure valid and responsible research results. He emphasized that although AI can speed up and simplify the research process, its use must still be guided by the principles of ethics and academic honesty.

In addition to the seminar, today's activities were also filled with a workshop guided by Dr. Muhammad Nur Hudha, M.Pd, a lecturer from Sebelas Maret University. This workshop focused on "Utilization of AI in Compiling Research Proposals and Scientific Articles". Dr. Hudha explained the various ways in which AI can be used to help researchers in compiling research proposals and writing scientific articles more efficiently. Workshop participants were given an understanding of AI tools and applications that can support the research process, from data collection to analysis and publication.

The background of this seminar and workshop is because of the widespread use of AI in the industrial era 5.0, where AI technology has developed rapidly and has had a significant impact on various sectors, including research. AI not only accelerates the process of data collection and processing, but is also able to assist in the preparation of scientific texts automatically, quickly, and accurately. However, Dr. Ide Bagus and Dr. Muhammad Nur Hudha agree that there are various challenges and ethical issues that need to be answered to ensure that the use of AI in research is carried out accurately and responsibly.

This activity aims to equip UPNVJ lecturers and students with the knowledge and skills needed to use AI appropriately, effectively, and in accordance with ethical principles. Through this seminar and workshop, it is hoped that lecturers and students can have a comprehensive understanding of the methods and ethics of using AI technology, as well as how AI applications can be utilized in research activities, preparation of research proposals, and publication of scientific papers.

With the end of the third day of Pekanlit, UPNVJ hopes to continue to support the development of innovative and responsible research, in line with technological developments and academic needs in the current digital era.
