UPNVJ Holds Webinar on Research Ethics and Quality

Public Relations of UPNVJ - The National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) through the Research Ethics Committee (KEPK) has successfully held a webinar with the theme "Ethics and Quality of Research in Higher Education, on Wednesday (19/12/24)

This webinar aims to increase awareness and understanding of the academic community regarding the importance of implementing ethics in every stage of research to ensure the quality of research results that are credible and beneficial to society.

The event began with remarks from the representative of the Research Ethics Committee, Dr. Dra. Rini Riyantini, M.Si, who also officially opened the event. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of maintaining ethics in research as the basis for academic integrity that must be upheld by every researcher.

​This webinar features three expert speakers who discuss various important aspects related to research ethics and quality.

The first material was delivered by Vice Admiral TNI (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Ir. Amarulla Octavian, ST., M.Sc., DESD., IPU., ASEAN.Eng. with the theme "Research Ethics and Academic Integrity in Higher Education." He explained how ethics and academic integrity are important foundations in producing quality research, as well as the negative impacts of ethical violations such as plagiarism and data manipulation.

The session ended with a highly interactive discussion, where participants actively asked questions about the application of ethics in their research.

​The second material, entitled "The Importance of Ethical Compliance and Scientific Validity in Research," was delivered by Prof. dr. Nur Atik, M.Kes., Ph.D.

In his session, he highlighted the relationship between the validity of research methodology and ethical compliance, as well as the negative impacts that can arise from research without scientific validity, such as loss of public trust in research results and waste of resources.

The discussion after this session was also lively, with many questions from participants regarding concrete steps to maintain the validity and compliance with ethical guidelines.

​The third material was presented by Harnawan Rizky, S.Si., MOHRE, who discussed “The Role of Research Ethics Committees in Improving Research Quality.” He explained the strategic functions of Research Ethics Committees, starting from protocol review, granting ethical clearance, to monitoring research implementation. This session provided practical insight to participants about the ethical clearance application procedure and the importance of monitoring to ensure that research is carried out according to ethical standards and scientific principles.

Participants showed high enthusiasm by asking various questions related to the challenges in the ethical clearance application process. The webinar ended with a post-test session to determine participants' understanding of the topics discussed.

Overall, the webinar was a success with very interactive discussions and positive responses from participants.
