Learn to be A Humble Leader by Prof. Frans, Head of UPNVJ Senate

UPNVJ PR - It's hard to find a leader who is warm, fair and stays grounded despite having a high position in today's era. There are many leaders who have arrogant traits and characters, so they are less able to establish closeness with their employees. However, it is different with the Head of UPNVJ Senate, Prof. Dr. med. Frans Santosa, MD, SpJP(K), FIHA, EFMA, FACA, FICA, FASA, SFGISA. He was able to dispel bad rumors regarding leaders who are cold, unfair and arrogant in this era. This can be seen from the actions of Prof. Frans during his tenure as Head of UPNVJ Senate.

UPNVJ Public Relations had the opportunity to conduct an exclusive interview with him in this beloved campus. In his interview, Prof. Frans talked a lot about his career journey until now serving as Head of the UPNVJ Senate.

Based on the story shared by Prof. Frans to the PR team, his career began when he became the first Vascular lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia who worked at the Harapan Kita Heart Hospital in 1993. After that he had the opportunity to serve abroad, to be precise in Germany. He admitted that at the beginning of his career he learned a lot and was guided by the teachers, “I learned a lot from my teachers who I may not be able to name one by one. One of them is the late Prof. dr. Sjukri Karim who guided me in gaining a lot of knowledge,” said Prof. France passionately. Long story short, after experiencing various extraordinary things, he was trusted to be the head of the Polyclinic and was able to educate many doctors from Germany.

Looking back on 2009, Prof. Frans told us how he was finally able to set foot at UPN Veteran Jakarta. At that time he was invited by Prof. Hadiman and Prof. Ronin Edi Baskara and met with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Rector who served at the time, Dr. Koesnadi Kardi, M.Sc, RCDS. "Dr. Koesnadi Kardi at that time was very welcoming and immediately invited me to join, then later appointed me to be an Academic Advisor in hopes of giving the best for UPNVJ. After that, there was a lot of support from various parties in my career journey so that I could become a Professor at UPNVJ,” he said.

Prof. Frans was grateful that by God's will everything went smoothly. He believes in the principle he held firmly throughout his lifetime that good intentions and goals will produce something good too. “I accept all challenges; I don't reject anything, the important thing is that everything is for goodness and righteousness. I have also gone through many obstacles and challenges in my career and profession as a doctor in the form of envy, ridicule and slander from other people. But on the other hand, I am also lucky because I always meet many good people and of course I am always supported by my family, my wife and children,” said Prof. Fran in the middle of the interview.

His appointment and inauguration as Professor of UPNVJ was carried out in 2014, a week after Prof. Eddy Siradj officially replaced Dr. Koesnadi Kardi as the Rector. "I swore an oath and I had instilled in myself that I am not at UPNVJ for any other purpose but to give the best, whatever I can only for UPNVJ as long as I live. Moreover, I am trusted to be the Head of Senate at UPNVJ," explained Prof. France full of warmth.

In addition to being the Head of Senate at UPNVJ, Prof. Frans has other duties: he became one of the first members of the Indonesian Doctors Association, he also served as the Head of Development Division of the Indonesian Medical Ethics Honorary Council from 2012 until now.

“I have achieved many things in this life, both in my profession as a doctor, as an academic, and in my role. My role in life is to always do good and always please the people around me. Because that way, my heart feels at peace,” said Prof. Frans at the end of the interview. Prof. Frans also gave a message to all UPNVJ academics: never forget to always give the best for our beloved UPNVJ.
