Public Relations of UPNVJ - In the context of a study on the inclusion of people with disabilities, a research team from the Faculty of Law of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta (UPNVJ) led by Taupiqurrahman, SH, M.Kn. held a meeting with the Chairperson and Members of the North Sulawesi General Election Commission (KPU) Kenly Poluan and Lanny Anggriany Ointu at the North Sulawesi KPU office in Manado on August 26, 2024.
The visit of the UPNVJ research team to the North Sulawesi KPU was carried out in order to collect research data. Taupiqqurrahman said that this year UPNVJ has received a continuation of the DRTPM grant from 2023.
Rianda Dirkareshza as one of the UPNVJ FH research team said that North Sulawesi is the first place to be visited in 2024.
The UPNVJ research team conducted an interview with Lanny Anggriany Ointu, who discussed the importance of participation of people with disabilities in elections as well as the reward and sanction mechanisms for political parties related to legislative candidates from this group.
According to Lanny, although there are no disabled legislative candidates running in the 2024 Election, the KPU continues to actively encourage the participation of this group.
"We strongly support the research conducted by the research team on reward and punishment policies for political parties if they are clearly regulated," said Lanny.
The North Sulawesi KPU also emphasized the importance of mathematical simulations of elections, especially regarding the number of seats and voters in each electoral district (dapil).
In addition, the budget capacity of local governments is also an important factor in implementing policies for inclusion of people with disabilities. This meeting provided important insights for research conducted by UPNVJ in strengthening the inclusiveness of elections in North Sulawesi.
