HumasUPNVJ – Lecturer of International Relations, Musa Maliki, PhD was invited as an expert resource person at the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (BSKLN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta in the Foreign Relations Journal Seminar entitled, "Strategy to Improve Hublu Journal as a Media for Diplomatic Communication." This seminar was held in a hybrid manner on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
BSKLN is a Foreign Policy Strategy Agency that has the task of formulating, compiling and providing recommendations for policy strategies in the field of foreign relations and foreign policy.
This seminar is part of the formation of the basis for the process of making Indonesian foreign policy. Scientific recording as a scientific source for the formulation, preparation and provision of policy strategy recommendations in the form of a journal of Foreign Relations (Hublu) is important. In other words, the journal is a valid and strong means for policy making to have a basis in scientific, intellectual and academic research.
Musa Maliki discussed the importance of developing a journal referring to the Renstra of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu). All activities carried out by Kemenlu will be scientifically documented in the Hublu journal so that the general public knows that the process of making foreign policy has a strong research basis and contains in-depth intellectual debate.
In addition, in managing online journals today, the Hublu journal must have a strong identity that represents the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The seminar involving academics and practitioners of national scientific journals is expected to help improve the posture of the Journal of Foreign Relations. Strategic steps, especially the importance of making the vision & mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a guideline in forming the characteristics of the Journal of Foreign Relations," said Secretary of BSKLN, Nina Kurnia Widhi.
Based on the vision and mission and Renstra of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Musa, "scientific attitudes must be biased and have moral obligations. Intellectuals must have values. The Hublu Journal must display the color of Indonesian values to fight for Indonesia's national interests". This seminar aims to inspire and open the eyes of all parties that science must be subjective in fighting for certain values, in this case Indonesia's national interests.
"This activity is intended to promote the Hublu Journal as a public information service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as a discussion forum for improving the quality of journals towards national accreditation. It is hoped that this seminar can expand the network and invite more quality writers to the Hublu Journal," said Nadia Said, Head of the Organizational Administration and Publication Section, BSKLN Secretariat who is currently completing the Integration Education of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Staff and Leadership School and National Leadership Training Level II.
Furthermore, Nadia as the organizer appreciated the participation and activeness of the participants in the seminar activities.
Collaborative Cooperation
This activity is part of the collaboration between UPNVJ and BSKLN. The collaboration provides input to each other so that there is collaboration between the world of practitioners and the world of academics.
International Relations academics assist practitioners in the practice of diplomacy and foreign policy so that Indonesia is easily understood by both national and international communities.
"Criticisms of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs usually contain arguments that do not know the details of the practices on the ground. Therefore, practitioners and diplomats must write to explain the news and policies that are misunderstood," Musa said.
This activity also supports the achievement of the Higher Education Key Performance Indicators (IKU), specifically IKU 3 and IKU 6, namely lecturers carrying out tri dharma activities outside the campus and the results of lecturers' work that are useful for the community. In other words, this seminar is a form of lecturer activity outside the campus, namely activities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that contribute to the application of their knowledge.
This activity was attended by various stakeholders, representatives of campuses, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This activity is expected to develop the Hublu journal as a communication media for national and international communities.
With this journal, the identity and image of Indonesia's foreign policy and its diplomatic role can be known academically and intellectually in a research forum.
"This journal does not have to be scientific like journals on campuses, but it has strong elements of policy and solutions to the problems of Indonesia's foreign policy," Musa concluded.
