UPNVJ Chancellor Promotes Entrepreneurial Mindset and Patriotic Spirit at 73rd Graduation

HumasUPNVJ - The aspect of entrepreneurial mindset is important because the future trend is to utilize digital spaces for business, and this mindset is a very valuable asset for job seekers and employers.

This was conveyed by the Chancellor of the National Development University "Veteran" Jakarta in a speech at the 73rd Graduation Ceremony at the Jakarta Convention Center on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

According to the Chancellor, the ability to reason, think innovatively, the desire to continue learning, and a patriotic spirit are also no less important as capital for graduates in contributing to the progress of society, the nation and the state.

"As a UPNVJ graduate who upholds the spirit of National Defense, we hope that you can be an added value for the progress of society, the nation and this country," said Venus in her speech at the event attended by 1,995 graduates.

"You can be part of a competent generation that is able to fill the demographic bonus which is a blessing and a gateway for Indonesia to become a developed country in 2045," he continued.

Of the total 1,995 graduates, 316 were graduates of the Diploma Three Program (D3), 1,410 of the Bachelor's Program (S1), 98 of the Master's Program (S2), and 171 of the Professional Program.

Venus said that currently the idea of Advanced Indonesia in 2045 is starting to become a shared vision of the Indonesian nation. Various groups are taking turns discussing this issue in the public space.

This issue resonated in the country after the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of Developed Countries (OECD) predicted that in 2045 Indonesia would become the fourth largest economic power in the world. The estimate was based on the prediction that in 2030-2040, Indonesia would experience a demographic bonus where the number of Indonesians of productive age (15-64 years) would reach 68 percent of the total population of around 300 million people.

This large number of productive age population is called Venus will be a driving factor for economic productivity which is the capital to become a developed country. However, he continued, the demographic bonus also becomes a "disaster" when the condition of Indonesia's human resources is not well prepared.

"The demographic bonus will be dangerous when the Indonesian population is of low quality and productivity, is not adaptive to technology, does not have a patriotic character, and does not dare to compete with other nations," said Venus.

UPNVJ as a state-owned university is committed to continuing to develop quality education that prioritizes reasoning capacity, innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, digital literacy, lifelong learning skills, growth mindset and patriotic spirit.

Mainstreaming like this, coupled with the provision of up-to-date and adequate learning resources, will enable UPNVJ to produce graduates/human resources who will be an added value to the demographic bonus being faced.

Graduates with Entrepreneurial Mindset

The ability to reason is the backbone of the way college people think. This is an absolute requirement that distinguishes college people from men on the street. This is related to the ability to think to produce logical and factual information/conclusions in explaining events or experiences in the real world.

The ability to reason will ensure that UPNVJ graduates are able to think straight or have correct thinking which is a requirement for life today and in the future.

In addition to reasoning skills, in the midst of a disrupted environment that creates an abundance of information and makes the lifespan of information so short, the ability of students, graduates and lecturers to have lifelong learning skills which in Alvin Tofler's terms is a learning process that includes the cycle of Learn, (learning), Unlearn (deleting the obsolete), and Relearn (relearning the new) becomes very important.

The ability to continue to persevere in learning must become a habit in the midst of a disrupted world situation. "Keep learning because the essence of the responsibility of the intelligent is to continue learning (it is the responsibility of the intelligent to be more diligent)," said Venus.

Furthermore, innovative thinking skills are a further development of reasoning skills that are developed out of the box, resulting in radical and impactful ideas or concepts.

"Entrepreneurial Mindset is important because the trend of universities and their graduates in the future is to utilize digital spaces for business. For this purpose, innovative power and digital literacy are important," said Venus.

"Above all, to ensure that Indonesia becomes a developed country, it must be ensured that the patriotic spirit is embedded in the souls of UPNVJ citizens and graduates. Only with the spirit of National Defense will this country continue to exist, survive and progress," he continued.

In addition to these values, said Venus, UPNVJ graduates are required to have the courage to act and take measured risks in making work decisions.

UPNVJ Transformation Commitment

In 2024, the enthusiasm of prospective students to enter UPNVJ reached 94,040 and those accepted were 4,692 or 6.2 percent of all D3 and S1 level applicants.

In addition, in terms of quality, UPNVJ is ranked 9th out of 10 top PTNs with the highest average UTBK score nationally for both the Saintek (Science and Technology) and Soshum (Social Humanities) fields.

The fact of the excellent quality of students, makes UPNVJ continue to be totally committed to carrying out transformation in various fields including encouraging students to excel through various competitions both nationally and internationally. "Now is the time for all of you to look forward. Devote yourselves to something valuable and useful for your own life, family, nation and country," Venus exclaimed.
